Group Description

The Queer Career Collective emerges from a persistent and often unspoken tension: career development has long been theorized and operationalized as though identity were incidental, when for LGBTQIA+ individuals, identity is not peripheral to career. It shapes access, safety, visibility, decision-making, and possibility. To navigate a career, in this context, is to navigate systems that do not always recognize, protect, or affirm one’s full self.

This community is designed in response to that reality.

The Queer Career Collective is a dedicated space for members of LGBTQIA+ communities to gather in shared recognition and forward movement. It offers access to free, high-quality career development webinars, opportunities for authentic networking, and a growing ecosystem of resources shaped by and for queer and trans individuals. More than a professional forum, it is a site of collective sensemaking where lived experience and career strategy are understood as deeply interconnected.

Within this space, career development is approached as both a personal and structural process. Members engage with topics such as navigating workplace disclosure, assessing organizational climates, negotiating safety and authenticity, interpreting labor market signals, and building careers that sustain both livelihood and identity. These conversations do not abstract identity from practice. They position it as central to how careers are imagined, pursued, and experienced.

The community is structured to support layered engagement. Members can attend live and asynchronous sessions, exchange insights and strategies with peers across industries and career stages, and access tools designed to support both immediate decisions and long-term career navigation. Resource sharing is grounded in rigor and care, recognizing that what is at stake extends beyond professional advancement to include dignity, belonging, and well-being.

Equally important, this is a space of affirmation without simplification. It honors the diversity within LGBTQIA+ communities, attending to the distinct and intersecting experiences shaped by race, class, gender identity, sexuality, disability, and other dimensions of identity. It resists one-dimensional narratives and instead invites complexity, nuance, and mutual learning.

At its core, the Queer Career Collective cultivates connection, clarity, and agency. It affirms that career development for LGBTQIA+ individuals is not a solitary endeavor but a shared practice shaped in community. It creates conditions where knowledge circulates, strategies evolve, and possibilities expand.

This is a community where careers are not pursued in spite of identity, but in alignment with it, with the support of others who understand both the risks and the promise of that alignment.
